  • How do you attach wood to hardware cloth?

  • I use strips of wood maybe 1/2鈥?to 鈥?thick and 1-1/2鈥?wide (use a table saw to rip a 2×4) and screw that over the ends of the hardware cloth. I drill a pilot hole for the screw so I won鈥檛 split the wood and put the screws through an opening in the hardware cloth.

  • What size staples do you use for hardware cloths?

  • You can also get large staples you drive in with a hammer, either 鈥?or 1-1/4鈥?staples. I use strips of wood maybe 1/2鈥?to 鈥?thick and 1-1/2鈥?wide (use a table saw to rip a 2×4) and screw that over the ends of the hardware cloth.

  • Should I staple the hardware cloth to the inside or outside?

  • BUT if you staple it on the inside, you should screw a small peice of border wood just over the edge of the hardware cloth so it it doesn’t have sharp edges…plus that adds to the durability. Hope this helps! It does, and thanks for the quick response! Are there any benefits for securing it to the inside rather than the outside?

  • How do you secure the hardware cloth?

  • I use large flat washers and screws to secure the hardware cloth. It’s pretty easy since I use a cordless drill. I space them about every 6 inches… with the wire either inside or outside. Plus, if for any reason I need to remove the wire, all I need to do is unscrew it. I would secure the hardware cloth on the outside.
